gnome-sushi will not engage

Bug Description

I have installed and reinstalled gnome-sushi several times but it still will not connect with nautilus -- on other computers it will preview my media files without problems as soon as I press the space bar, but on this laptop there is no reaction at all from the spacebar press on an mp3 (it shows the mp3 music icon, so I'm sure the system would know what to do with the mime type, and the open menu correctly assigns to mpg321)

is there some trick to getting gnome-sushi connected?

Thank you for your bug report, could you add your .xsession-errors (copied when you get the issue) to the bug? does it work if you run it by hand on a command line?

I am not seeing any .xsession-error action when I press the space bar
hovering on an mp3

sushi from the command line gives

$ sushi

does this mean sushi requires a 3D graphics support that my old laptop is
lacking?

the issue seems a sushi or clutter on (or maybe your videocard, driver don't handle what is needed for it to work):

affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) → gnome-sushi (Ubuntu)

I think it may be a duplicate, and the solution is disappointing as it means a loss of quite essential functionality in this upgrade:
