An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Segmentation fault

Ubuntu - bug didn't work; gave further error

I'll send this over to update-manager since that seems like the correct package, unless you had a specific reason for packaging it against kubuntu-meta?

affects: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) → update-manager (Ubuntu)

Yes. The problem still exists after several reboots. I'm about to just
reload a newer version on Edubuntu (11.04). Just haven't found the time to
try to "save" the desktop items and find out what I've installed since the
original install. Getting a list of installed packages isn't working for
me. Haven't been able to download updates or packages since the bug report
was submitted. Not critical as this is occurring on my young son's
computer.

Run these:

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/status /var/lib/dpkg/status-tmp

then...

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/status-old /var/lib/dpkg/status

Then try the 'sudo apt-get update'

Tim,

That fixed the problem. After running these, I did get an error message
about a "locks' file permission. However, it did not prevent me from
successfully running the update. Thanks for all the help.
