Bug Description

Sorry for the delay, here you have the debug info.

BTW, the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 command you ask to execute to debug
the autoconfig scripts does not works, it asks me always all questions, the only
way I found to do it is dpkg --purge xserver-xfree86 and then, reinstall it again.

I forgot to say that the Xserver works, but the HorizSync is too small and the
screen is also too small.

Carlos when opening a bug, do you mind to summarize what was wrong in the beginning?

Also are you sure that this is not the debugging of another bug?

Sorry I need to sort my mind before reporting bug reports..

I was testing the new Xserver autoconfig and I removed the XF86Config-4 file so
it's recreated again like a fresh installation (I cannot reinstall my laptop
now) and the new config file I got is not correct.

About if it's not the debugging of another bug... I don't understand what do you
mean. It's similar to the problem I had with my iMac installation and I just did
the same thing with my powerbook.

I checked the new config and the old one. The difference is in
HorizSync that is set to 28-33 but there is no way that X could have
calculated -33 in any case.
Either using the known settings or calculating it would have set a
value of atleast 50.

If you purge the package, rm the config, and reinstall it, can you reproduce
this problem constantly?

Yes, it happens always, that's the way I'm testing it

1.- stop gdm
2.- rm -f /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
3.- dpkg --purge xserver-xfree86
4.- apt-get install xserver-xfree86

And I get always that output.

stop gdm
purge the package
remove the config
export XRESPROBE_DEBUG=yes

apt-get install xserver-xfree86 2>log

and attach the log to the bug please.

This is really weird. Can you send me the output of:
debconf-show xserver-xfree86
with and without xserver-xfree86 installed?

Basically I can see that we set the values correctly,
but debconf returns crap later. What I am puzzled
about is why we didn't notice before.

Not sure if you still need this file...

If I remove the package that command returns nothing.
