Bug Description

UPDATE: make sure the bios is up to date, I had these problems as i was running an old version of th bios.

The NB100 came pre-installed with ubuntu and is an ubuntu certified netbook, but it does not work properly with ubuntu 11.10 i386. To load the live cd "acpi=off" needs to be added to the boot options and grub default command once setup for it to load.

The wifi card is recognised by lspci (see below) but the network-manager (network selection tab) does not display any wireless networks.

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

I've plugged in a wifi dongle and updated to the latest kernel (3.0.0-14) but it is still not working. Nothing came up in jockey when searching for additional drivers.

The battery icon is also missing although this has already been reported somewhere on the internet.

Additional info; I've had to add "acpi=off" and "noapic" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
to allow the machine to boot properly.

I'vealso tried the Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2 liveCD and it boots without these additions to grub. Network-manager also picks up my network and can connect. However, I can not install it as th machine freezes when I click the install icon.

I seem to remember that I could also login to my network in a previous LiveCD, but not after installation.

Brad Figg (brad-figg) wrote : Missing required logs.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 903584

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Marius Kotsbak, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Regarding your Bug Description:

Do you currently have to use this WORKAROUND to boot after you have installed Ubuntu 11.10 and/or 12.04?

@Christopher yes, acpi=off needs to be added to both the Ubuntu 11.10 AND the 12.04 Live CD. However, it works fine (without any non-default boot options) with the 12.10 beta 2 live CD

Scott Hosking, glad to hear you do not have to use the WORKAROUND in Quantal. I asked about this because we may be dealing with problems of problems (ex. you use your kernel WORKAROUND and you have problems like wifi, etc.).

Hence, do you still have the WiFi troubles in Quantal?

@Christopher, I've not been able to install Quantal to the hard drive as the system freezes when I try to install from the live cd. The wifi on the live CD does work however.

Scott Hosking, glad to hear the wifi works on the Quantal Live CD. As a WORKAROUND for the Quantal Live CD install problem, can you upgrade from Precise to Quantal following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upgrades#Upgrading_to_development_releases and report the results of the WiFi?

To address the problem with the Live CD freezing when you attempt to install, please boot with the newest Quantal Live CD available, execute the following via a terminal and feel free to subscribe me to it:
