The folder is empty!?
To be sure, I made certain that hidden files were shown. I also checked the properties of the folder and it showed the folder as being empty.
Strange, no?
What else can I do to help you figure this one out?

Did you get this error while upgrading to a newer version of Ubuntu?

No, I was just trying to install the regular security updates. I learned to hard way to never try to install a new version, but to install fresh from an iso.

Ok, so that directory should be empty then. Are you still getting that error message when using update-manager?

yes, I'm still getting that message. I'm running a raid mirror on two identical 1TB drives using the 64 bit alternate iso. everything works fine except for the update manager. i believe i am running 11.04 on this machine.

i don't see a distribution upgrade option. the upgrade option under settings is set for "normal releases," but i seem to recall declining to upgrade to 11.10.
grayed out is 114 upgrades for 103mb.

In a terminal do,
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Its not a distribution upgrade so dont worry about that. See if it installs the requested updates and corrects the problem.
