You're missing a step on the karldemo.org website:

On:
http://karlproject.org/download.html

after start supervisor, you need to either start karlserve manually (or you need to provide a different supervisor config)

Readme mentions starting karlserve but not supervisor.

Karl is now built and ready to run. Run Karl using Paste HTTP server in the
foreground::

  $ bin/karlserve serve

Alternatively, you can use Paster::

Hey Jim, good hearing from you, and thanks for the report. I have a task assigned to me to clean up all this mess. The README at the top of the buildout is correct, whereas the other 3 (the two pages on karlproject.org and src/karl/README) are decoys.

Can you go through:

I did the zodb option (didn't do the postgres)

I had to remove the auto checkout from my buildout.cfg

start supervisord (not in https://github.com/karlproject/dev-buildout/blob/master/README.txt)

and then start karlserve serve

OSF open source community work is obviously on hold.
