Video distortion after wake from suspend

Bug Description

Using Mint 12 RC

After waking the computer from suspend, the unlock screen will present normally. However, after logging in, both the top and bottom bars, as well as any associated menus, will become distorted, often being replaced with what appears to be static. All icons/pictures/etc associated with the bars, as well as system dialog boxes and notifications, will also be distorted in the same way. This occurs on every suspend/wake cycle. Logging out and back in will fix this until the next sleep/wake cycle.

I've attached a screenshot of the distortion immediately after login. The dialog box that is shown is the one to log out (which corrects this problem)

Yes I get this to, not sure if the video driver is responsible (nvidia gts250, proprietary driver).

Can confirm this bug does not occur with the proprietary nvidia driver switched off.

Just a bit more information that might help resolve this issue.....

Dell XPS L501x (nVidia Video Card using proprietary driver (nVidia Post Release Updates)).

Suspend and Hibernate don't recover correctly - when using Gnome 3 the desktop comes up corrupted when waking up Suspend and Hibernation. Screen corruption matches what is described above.

When using Gnome (Classic) both Suspend and Hibernate work correctly.

When using Mate, only Suspend works correctly, and Hibernates shows a corrupt desktop (as discussed above) when started from Hibernate. I'll log a bug if it's not already a known problem.
