Bug Description

http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/System/SuspendResume
Extended Suspend/Resume test
Case ID: snr-002

Run the suspend/resume test script included in Ubuntu:
sudo /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/suspend_test --full
or run the following if testing a server:
sudo /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/suspend_test --server
This will perform a number of suspend/resume tests. The first few of these require human intervention such as unplugging the AC cord and replacing it. Once the main stress test starts no further intervention will be needed. Any failures to resume should trigger apport which will guide you in filing a bug in Launchpad.

The manual suspend and lid close suspend works fine.
The problem appears to be in the script. sudo /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/suspend_test --full
Not only does it end up in an unrecoverable state, it also fails to trigger the apport feature to file the bug.
It is also a regression because it had worked properly in previous releases.

Mark Nighswonger, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <BUGNUMBER>

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
