Disk doesn't show free space in 'filesystem'

If you open Computer->Disk and right click on 'Filesystem', you cannot se the
free space of the drive (or how big it is)

It works on other drives, and if you go to /mnt and right click on drives there.

I think that the Filesystem icon is special, since it doesn't actually
correspond to a particular storage device (it spans all mounted devices).
Sebastien, is that true?

Yes. I'm not sure that this could be handled in a different way ...

But how should a user then know how much free space is on the disc where they
have installed their filesystem (without noticing the free space in every
directory).
/ is mounted in fstab, so it is not that it spans multiple filesystems. You
could also mount something in another mounted directory. Like /mnt/hdc1/hda4 or
something.
Then both hdc1 and hda4 will show up i 'Disks', and the free space is correct,
even if hdc1 'spans multiple filesystems'.

Hmm, see this bug has been inactive for a long time. It seems more important than a priority "low" bug to me. I've been annoyed by it several times, almost always when trying to show off ubuntu to interested parties. I don't even use windows, yet I expect free space to be shown here ;) And I keep getting embarrassed over and over; I forget every time since in daily life I'm a command-line junky.

At least as of Hardy Alpha 3, this bug seems to be fixed on my system. Right clicking on "Filesystem" provides a nice graph of free and used space. (but only for the fs mounted on /). Upstream also seems to think it is fixed.

Yep, fixed in released hardy as far as I'm concerned. Showing free space for the root partition is the correct behavior as far as I'm concerned... I think this bug is safe to close?

On second thought... "Filesystem" is kind of a meta-concept that just happens to include the root parition. What would probably make sense is to summarise all the mounted filesystem's info somehow. This is actually a surprisingly complicated issue to present completely logically in an UI ;)

Perhaps it needs a new usability bug?
