Bug Description

recently whey replying to some html messages, vm positions the reply buffer such that the top line displayed within the reply window is the first empty line after

--text follows this line--

while the entire header is not shown unless I scroll up. this does not occur when replying to non-html messages. I am attaching an example email that leads to this issue. I am using emacs-w3m to read html messages in vm.

cheers, E

I can't reproduce this problem.

Can you try it with default settings? You might also need to disable the
.vm.windows file to get the default behavior.

Cheers,
Uday

PS I have made your bug report public, because there wasn't anything private
in it. It didn't show up in the list of bug reports otherwise.

hi Uday, sorry, forgot to mention that this only occurs in the trunk
version of gnu emacs for the past couple of months, not in emacs-23.3,
for example.  does this help? E

Then it must be a problem with the trunk version of Gnu Emacs. I intend to
test out the pretest version of Gnu Emacs sometime, but it will be a while
because I have some travel and other stuff for the next few weeks.

Uday

The problem is only arising when emacs-w3m is invoked to insert the quoted text. In this case, even explicitly saving/restoring the point doesn't help. There is probably something wrong with emacs-w3m under Emacs 24.

Installed a work-around using `set-window-start', as recommended by Martin Rudalics.

The bug fix seems to work now, buffer positioning during reply is fine. interestingly, there is a delay in getting to that point: emacs will stop at the wrong buffer position as described above, and will only move to the right one when I move the mouse. let me know if there is anything I can do to help...

Hi Eli,

It might be an Emacs on Mac problem.

Can you try it with the 24.0.91 pretest release, so that we know what we are
talking about?

Cheers,
Uday
