Bug Description

Oneiric Beta 2:

How to reproduce:

1 - If you new emails default to maximised, open a new window and the window will be greater than the unity panel and launcher with no window decoration (see maximised.png). [The only way to close this is with Escape, resizing or unmaximising buttons / keys don't work, Alt-Tab doesn't control it properly either]

2 - If there are decorations initially on the maximised window, un-maximising the window creates a window with no decorations (see unmax.png)

Expected results: Compose window has full decoration just like in Unity-2d or Metacity (see metacity.png)

evolution 3.2.0-0ubuntu2
compiz 1:0.9.6-0ubuntu1
fglrx-updates 2:8.881-0ubuntu4

FWIW it doesn't fail on new meetings, new contacts etc just new (email) message

It also fails on opening existing emails, rather than exclusively on composing new mail. Also Alt + Right Click and selecting Unmaximise does nothing, neither does resize, move or either after unmaximising (minimising works but then when you unminimise it you have the same problem).

This seems to have something to do with Compiz & Fullscreen requests. I created a brand new user and it did the same thing. However I tested at home (on a much bigger screen, dual head Nvidia set-up for video playback) and couldn't reproduce.

Testing again (on new profile) and when changing to metacity (using --replace) the terminal displayed issues about a fullscreen window. Changed back to compiz and through CCSM disable "unredirect full screen windows" in OpenGL and Workarounds. This solved the bug. Re-enabled both settings and it still works as expected. If it re-appears I'll test again to see which work-around solved it.

the issue is a compiz, unity one, not an evolution bug

Went back to my original profile, bug returned. Disabled "Legacy Fullscreen Support" in Workarounds (within CCSM) and that solves it (well, works around it). FWIW re-enabling LFS brings the bug right back. Happy to provide any more info that anyone needs.

That's a dupe of #861143, suggested the workaround in that bug to see if it is the same problem...

Definitely a separate bug, not fixed by the update to 4.22 which solves bug #861143

This seems to have been fixed. Not sure what update fixed it, but the window decorations show as of 10/5/11 A.M.

There's been a new unity release, 4.22.0-0ubuntu2, which fixes this bug for me too (v1 didn't for some reason). Must have been the same issues as #861143 after all...

Okay, now the fix created a new problem. I have my Evolution window resized and can see the window decorations, but when I minimize the window and then click on it's icon in the Unity launcher the window opens maximized and I have to resize again. The behavior affects other apps as well.

For example I normally have my Chrome window resized and not showing the window decorations bar (this option is in Chrome's preferences) now since the fix, when I minimize it and then click on it's icon from the launcher it also comes back as maximized with the window decorations. I then have to resize it and then go back into Chrome's preferences to remove the window decorations...

Okay, I'm having to change my comments :( This is not fixed :(
It seemed to work briefly yesterday but after a reboot it does not work unless I have disabled "Legacy Fullscreen Support" in CCSM.

Added a new screenshot showing no decorations on the compose window and it taking up the full screen. On the plus side Alt+Tab now works on the window so I can at least show the terminal and unity & panel briefly above the window.

Hi,

I think i have the same issue as you. As a workaround I solved it by checking off ccsm->Workarounds-> "Legacy full screen support".
You will have to install compizconfig-settings-manager package.

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

I got this in 11.10, just recently updated to 12.04 and still got the "fullscreen without menu" behavior of evolution.

Then i disabled legacy support and everything worked fine, so i thought this bug is yet not fixed, but after wanting to get a screenshot and enabling fullscreen legacy support again: evolution still stays in its window borders.

So everything works as it should, just had the disable and reenable the fullscreen legacy support (i got here because of google - might be interesting for future readers)
