xorg.conf which fixes GPU lockups on Intel i845 hardware ("DRI" "false" and "Shadow" "true" in Section "Device" ) Edit (1.5 KiB, text/plain)

I found workaround for GPU lockups (X freezes) on Intel i845 hardware at official Xorg bug tracking system - see http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26345

It's very simple - just create a /etc/X11/xorg.conf config file with this content:

Section "Device"
  Identifier "Card0"
  Option "DRI" "false"
  Option "Shadow" "true"
EndSection

I'm attaching xorg.conf file which fixes GPU lockups on Intel i845 hardware.

Also I found more info about solutions how to fix GPU lockups on Intel i845 and i855 hardware at LP bug #541492 and bug #541511

In oneiric, intel driver is enabled. but gpu lockups are frequently occurring in i845. Is there any patch available for i845? pls help me.

Hi Abdul, unfortunately we're no longer providing development support for i845 in Ubuntu for Oneiric. Ubuntu may still function on this graphics card, but we're not backporting patches or investigating bugs, except for really trivial/simple things. Instead, we recommend that you bring the issues directly to upstream at bugs.freedesktop.org.

I resolve this issue completely by installing 3.0.0.12 kernel from
kernel ppa and enabling KMS in Lucid
