Thank you for your bug. Do you have that bug every time you start evolution? Having a valgrind log (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) for it could be interesting

I actually figured out how to duplicate this bug.

If I am in Evolution and exit while on in any of my personal folder, then every time i lunch evolution i get this error, but if i am quick enough and click on inbox then the program does not crash. I hope this makes sense. I will to the valgrind with both see if you can figure this out.

thanks

The dbgsym are available from an extra source, you have instructions on how to configure it on that page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

I've had this bug since I installed Ubuntu on my new machine (Feisty) and no way to start Evolution :o(
Any idea how to fix it?

If you can't start Evolution at all then you may have a slightly
different bug to me. I could always start it but sometimes when I
clicked "new message" it would crash. I mostly solved my crash (it
only crashes very occasionally now) by manually compiling and
installing the latest version of gtkhtml (I think). Email me again
if you want specifics. Cheers.

I had the same problem, when i was in feisty, I recently moved my laptop to gutsy and the issue as far as i can see is gone, but i don't recommend gutsy as it has bugs and may have more different issues.

But for feisty what i did was:
the crash happens on html e-mails.
If you can get in evolution, and it crashes after only a second into it. reload it again but for this one second try to change your folder from inbox to "anything else"
My always crashed again, but then i reloaded evolution again and went into my preferences and unchecked my html settings so that they were off.

After that I was able to use evolution but no html. I always crashed on some emails.

Anyways I hope you understand my quick fix. let me know

Since upgrading all fixes provided, the problem has disappeared and is
no longer a "bug" for me.

Richard Theil (richard-theil) wrote : Re: seen on gutsy and worked around

I just saw the bug in current gutsy on a Thinkpad T41 I use to evaluate new releases (evolution 2.11.6-0ubuntu1). A second user had been added with a home folder copied from feisty. She set up evolution as a POP client and downloaded a couple of HTML mails. Evolution started crashing in ways described above. Updating to the mentioned version did not help. Cleaning out the "./evolution/mail/config" folder eliminated the crashes. HTML mails display properly now. Could font metrics be involved (i.e. something within the realm of "gtkrc-mail-fonts"; unfortunately it is now deleted...), as the system wide font scaling changed with an update close to the incident?

Addendum to the previous note: The bug re-occured after trying to quote some HTML mail. After an upgrade to 2.11.6.1-0ubuntu1 the symptoms disappeared without any further intervention.

I have just encountered this problem on Ubuntu 7.04. Entering the preferences menu crashed Evolution 2.10.1 every time.
Doing what Richard Theil said on 2007-07-31, by removing the "./evolution/mail/config" folder, eliminated the crashes.

I initially saw the problem when starting Evolution from an icon in a panel.
I then tried starting from a console where the problem was absent initially, I could enter the preferences menu.
After exiting the preferences menu the problem returned, even when starting evolution from the console.

Would the "./evolution/mail/config" files assist in fixing the problem?
