This bug #850145 is most evident in the alsaplayer-gtk interface. If I run alsaplayer-text then there is no problem with cpu usage. The high cpu usage of alsaplayer-gtk is a real problem and not a perceived problem, as the high cpu usage affects system usability and the windowing manager slows to a crawl.
