It is possible to build and install it from source without issues.

Version 1.3.2 can't be backported yet because it's not available in any of the Ubuntu releases.

hunspell has a lot of reverse dependencies; try running apt-cache rdepends <package> for these packages.

  Binary: libhunspell-dev, libhunspell-1.2-0, hunspell, hunspell-tools

The new version has a new ABI, package libhunspell-1.3-0. All packages depending on -1.2-0 would have to be rebuilt if they are to make use of the new version.

Therefore I'm going to Won't Fix this one, but if someone wants to check that all reverse dependencies build against the new library and continue to work then I will reconsider. We'll also need to see that the rdepends of hunspell itself are still OK.

I build it on Maverick from source and simply linked the library to the expected file name and all works fine. I understand that you decide for don't fix and agree without thorough testing. If someone else would like to investigate this it might be good to know that it /could/ work.
