cursor hangs when working with file explorer

When operating with file explorer, the cursor hangs and does not allow to close, minimise or maximise the screen. also, the keyboard fails to work. only thing i can do is ALT+TAB to change windows. However, it does not help. To escape this issue i have to hard restart my laptop by manually switching it off. this has happened to me several times in 11.04. please look into it.

I haven't downloaded the latest version. I will revert about it once I try
it.
