cannot login as a user

I cannot login as a user. After entering the passwort lightdm appears again. But I can login as a guest. Problem stays even after new install of Ubuntu.

I can't access Synaptic paket manager. But release is up to date with
apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade

could you add your .xsession-errors after a failed login to the bug?

Stephan, try removing .Xauthority file from your home directory and see if it helps.

Didn't notice it's quite an old bug with no answer from the reporter and no duplicates. It's also unlikely to be lightdm issue and it doesn't contain needed information so marking as invalid.
