Bug Description

In the fix for bug #815077, 'Restart' was added to the confirmation dialog when clicking 'Shutdown' from the indicator-session menu. In addition to the fact that 'Shutdown' should probably be 'Shutdown...' so that people know more can be done when selecting the option, if /apps/indicator-session/suppress_logout_restart_shutdown is set to 'True', you cannot restart via the indicator-session menu. I've known quite a few people who have set this (or asked me to) stating that 'I selected Shutdown, why do I have to confirm this? It's annoying'. I propose:
* when suppress_logout_restart_shutdown is False, display only 'Shutdown...' in the menu
* when suppress_logout_restart_shutdown is True, display 'Restart' and 'Shutdown' in the menu

Up to date Oneiric with indicator-session 0.3.1-0ubuntu2.

Marking as not critical for Oneiric. Restart isn't a critical function, so while it'd be nice to have, we can't see this as a priority at this point.

I beg to differ. Restart is a critical function for dual-booters.

This bug is a MAJOR problem.

I am totally unable to restart or shutdown from within Unity. First, there is no Restart option in the Indicator-Session. Second, selecting Shut Down results in Log Out. And selecting Restart from Dash results in Log Out.

Don, that's a different bug where something is blocking shutdown or restart and Ubuntu unfortunately doesn't tell the user what happened but just logs out instead.

Whether this is critical or not (it IS critical for me), having no "restart" and not being able to add it easily is against the spirit of Linux, which is all about having choice. I had this choice in previous releases, I don't have it now. A clear step back. PLEASE, consider the very reasonable proposal of the bug description above:

* when suppress_logout_restart_shutdown is False, display only 'Shutdown...' in the menu
* when suppress_logout_restart_shutdown is True, display 'Restart' and 'Shutdown' in the menu

I completly agree with Adam. This is a major bug for me, and one that made me go back to 11.04. I'm a dual boot user and I need a clean and quick access to "restart".

Besides, that's at odds with the very spirit of Linux : all about having choices.

And it would be great if, for once, Canonical could just for a second listen to users. To have "restart" is no big deal: and it would make my Ubunutu experience just greater.

This is a pain for me too. There should be a Restart option in the indicator-session dropdown.

This is fixed in Q: the availability of "Restart" is only dependent on "suppress-restart-menuitem".

"suppress-logout-restart-shutdown" is confusingly named, but it is used /only/ to determine whether or not a confirmation prompt is required for the logout/restart/shutdown commands.
