Bug Description

Every Start-Up of Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat (10.10) on my Toshiba Satellite Laptop, the whole system freezes a few minutes after Logging in. This is about the time I have to open Firefox (but the problem occurs even if I do not open any software). SysRq+Alt+REISUB has no effect so I have to do a hard restart. This usually fixes the problem (when I log-in again) but sometimes I have to restart in this manner two or three times. I think it maybe a GUI issue.

Any suggestions?

Here is my Xorg.0.log file

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

It was originally reported against evince but I've changed that as you don't describe anything wrong with Evince.

A good first try is to turn off Compiz. System -> Preferences -> Appearance | Effects I think

affects: evince (Ubuntu) → ubuntu
