Bug Description

When using latest version of Skype to share desktop with recipient, it requires double access; first time the recipient only sees a frozen image, then I stop sharing screen, start sharing screen the second time which is immediately successful. I reported this previously but there were no comments. I have tried tweaking the CSSM but nothing I tried fixed this.

This happened with classic desktop? Isn’t this a bug in Skype?

. . no, should have given more info . . new to reporting. Unity desktop,
I haven't used Classic desktop on this machine. Is it a bug in Skype? I
really don't know but if it is, I can understand why there's not a lot
of enthusiasm for this bug. The only issue here is that I did use Skype
with the Classic desktop running under Metacity with the proprietary
NVidia driver/module; and didn't see this problem. Sorry if I haven't
given enough info.

There is nothing in the logs that might indicate what is occurring so
they would not be helpful.

Thanks for the response.

Mike it would be really helpful if you could try to reproduce this same bug in Ubuntu Classic session so that we are sure its not a bug with Unity, after that you could also test with metacity so that we could totally rule out compiz and blame skype :) Your help is appreciated.

Omer, tested in Classic desktop with Metacity running as requested, there was no problem with Skype sharing desktop, took approx 3 seconds to share and tested three times to be sure. Sorry but didn't have time to check with Compiz/Classic but may get time later. Interestingly I have been testing Jitsi [jitsi.org] which is proving a valid open source alternative to Skype which also has share desktop and it works well with Compiz/Unity. Jitsi is under rapid development and improving well.

Omer, checked Skype with Compiz running the Classic desktop. Skype required two attempts to 'share full desktop'. Stopped desktop sharing, tried again and it worked immediately. Closed Skype connection and logged out, logged back in and restarted Skype, tried to share desktop - but again required two attempts to succeed. Conclusion drawn is Compiz inhibits a screen share the first time; but not on second attempt. Nothing in logs. It is a minor problem, as my recipients [mostly Windows users] now take it for granted this is what I have to do in Linux. Other than this all Skype connections work very well and once desktop sharing is successfully initiated that also works fast and efficiently.

Can I reopen this? I have recently upgraded to Oneiric and can confirm this problem still exists, one click to share desktop with recipient fails, stop sharing, then share desktop again is successful, repeatable, nothing in logs. Have fiddled with Compiz settings but nothing changes this behaviour.
