Icons in tray disappear sometimes or not appear at all

The tray icons sometimes disappear, to get them back I have to restart Unity (which has it's own problems like requiring to change conflicting keyboard shortcuts again or garbling the display of top panel).

alt-f2 and typing 'unity' is a better way to restart unity than to enable and disable it in ccsm(this currently have a few problems).
systray only shows skype in it in Natty have you enabled the whitelist to show 'all' apps?

Yes, I enabled the whitelist to show all apps.

It also shows them from time to time, but not always. :)

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I don't think this should be a duplicate for #932769. This is about some try icons sometimes disappearing (which it happens also to me). The other one is about full bar disappearing in a specific case.

It was happening in my Ubuntu 11.10 and now in 12.04, both x64.

@sam why do you think these are not the same issues? in both cases the "old-style notification area' is disappearing. Anyways I don't feel anyone from unity-team would actually be working on this bug.

I can confirm this issue for 13.04 using Java Tray Icons. It helps to restart unity.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. We have tried to recreate this on the latest release of Ubuntu, but cannot reproduce it. This bug is being marked as Invalid. If you believe the problem to still exist in the latest version of Ubuntu, please comment on why that is the case and change the bug status to NEW.
