Bug Description

Using the standard NoScript whitelist and Firefix web browser, the keyboard and mouse lock up when visiting an individual news story web page at news.yahoo.com. This has occured with USB mouse and PS-2 mouse and has been recreated several times since about 7/21/11. The only recourse upon lockup is to reboot the PC because there is no access to the Force-Quit control in the panel of Ubuntu 11.04.

7/27/11 was unable to recreate this bug for the first time. I visited a specific web page at news.yahoo.com expecting the computer to lock up, but nothing happened and I was able to use both keyboard and mouse.

The problem returned 08/05/11. This time the keyboard and mouse froze on the main page at news.yahoo.com. I did not have to visit a specific news web page as before to recreate this problem.

I am glad to know it wasn't just me. I have been keeping up with natty updates and lately I have not seen the problem recur. I visit Yahoo! News almost daily now with no problems noted except as in previous comments.

This problem recurs after a long time of not having further incidents with news.yahoo.com, and I was surprised to see it return.

Raleigh (and anyone else affected),

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported? Please let us know if you do.

If we do not hear from you this bug report will expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for checking in. I have since convinced myself that the freezing
of keyboard and mouse at the Yahoo! News website had more to do with
javascript and advertising and tracking downloads. I now block as many of
those advertisers and trackers as I can.

You can close the bug report. I was not fully aware at the time I reported
it that javascript, ads, and trackers, could have an impact. The freezing
of keyboard and mouse probably mean that the browser has not fully
processed all the downloads called for by the web site.

Regards,

Raleigh Stout
