Window re-drawing is laggy when window Resize Mode is set to "Normal"

Bug Description
When I have the the Resize Mode set to "Normal" in Compiz's Resize Window settings, windows that are being resized are redrawn with a very long lag, at least a couple hundred milliseconds.
Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit with Unity
NVIDIA binary driver 270.41.06-0ubuntu1

Both of my CPUs are pegged while resizing in normal mode. Does anyone have a workaround?
