I got this after clicking on the "Webcam" menu item under the button that has a power icon with a tiny gear overlayed on top of it. The USC dialog appeared and the Loading animation kept spinning.

Hi florin. Indeed, this fix went in after Oneiric beta 1, and is available as an update now with software-center version 4.1.21.

May I ask, are you launching Software Center from the command line (as 'software-center')? If so, as things stand now you actually won't be running the new default version, which is launched via the terminal as 'software-center-gtk3' (or more generally by using the Unity launcher, etc.). I ask this because this crash only affects this previous UI of Software Center, and does not affect the new default UI.

Or, are you launching Software Center by using the Unity app-lens (Unity->More Apps) for a downloadable application? I have just now noticed that there seems to be a bug in that case as that is indeed launching the old UI for Software Center. I will open a separate bug for this.

In any case, updating your system will take care of this crash.

Many thanks!
Gary

This problem occurred for me on clicking on an 'downloadable app' from the Unity app-lens, software is entirely uptodate as the night before the time this was written. I see there is a new unity in my update queue now.

Hi Peter, indeed, that seems to be the primary use case that causes people to encounter this crash (please see my comment 8). I've opened a new bug report for this at bug 839257.

Btw, even with this other bug, I would expect you not to get this crash if you have the latest software-center. Could you please check your version by opening a terminal and typing:

  apt-cache policy software-center

and reporting the version number result here? The fix should be in 4.1.21.

Thanks!
