Antialiased Window Corners - Technical Details?

Could someone please take time to explain the technical details that make this feature hard to address?

If you can have transparency in the active area of the terminal, or even transparent gradient shadows all around the windows, how come are antialiased window corners technically challenging with current compositors?

They aren't, and in fact they have been implemented in the decorator
work that was not landed this cycle.
