Bug Description
After a default install, my dual PII system does not have an SMP kernel running.
arch reports i686 (which is correct). a 686-smp kernel should be installed by
default.
This is probably also the case with a HyperThreading CPU.

This was due to confusion related to bug 8040, where GRUB didn't get the root
device correct (and hence i fiddled on a command line for a bit to get something
to boot).
Once i solved the problem related to 1283, SMP kernel is there and well - both
CPUs running.
