Bug Description

The Network Manager has a few issues and I'm really surprised to see something as important as this overlooked...

1. Where is the NM Applet? -- (Right click icon, 'About' says Indicator Applet) This should be the NM-Applet it offers a few options over this indicator applet.

2. When connecting to a VPN the taskbar icon should show some spinning activity when attempting to make a connection and then the taskbar icon should appear with a lock around it, showing a secure connection and it doesn't.

3. Also when disconnecting from a VPN you get no notification popup telling you are now disconnected from the VPN, you only see the notification daemon icon appear when connecting...

Let's please start using the NM-Applet, get a lock showing on secure connections and have the notification daemon popup notification when disconnected from a secure connection...

THANKS

Oh forgot to mention, if this is the nm-applet then where are the right click options?

Also I finally got a spinning icon when attempting the connection to a VPN and I saw a lock at the same time flash in and out of view for a brief second, but no lock appears on the taskbar icon when connected...

THANKS

I have just come from Ubuntu and I have the "no padlock" issue when connected to a VPN. I do get the spinning disc while it is connecting however.

I use PPTP VPN a lot to access servers and occasionally I lose the VPN connection. With Ubuntu I got a notification of this and the padlock disappeared. Linux Mint gives no notification of connected or lost connection.

The nm-applet does not show the padlock when the VPN is connected. Please see attached image (network and vpn names have been edited for security reasons).

Same issue as previously mentioned. The network manager applet does not indicated the connection status for a VPN (OpenVPN). No indication during the connection phase and no lock indicator once connected.

Hi

I also have issues with the cinnamon network manager applet not showing the lock symbol when conneted to VPN

If Iremove the applet I get a different one (ubuntu default?) which works as expected. The cinnamon one is no longer showing the lock symbol when connected.

I can confirm that this is still the case for me even on Cinnamon 3.2 and Linux Mint 18.1 and as tc68 mentioned, if you remove the applet the default network applet does show the padlock.
