Could you run sudo apt-get clean and then run sudo apt-get install unity-place-files (to upgrade it) and check if its fixed? Seems like the file wasn't downloaded properly, or it was being uploaded to the mirror when you downloaded it.

Changed in unity:
status: New → Invalid
