Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Unity sometimes shows the global menu and title belonging to the window behind the actual window that is in the foreground. This is because the window is not correctly brought to the foreground.

Test case:
1. Start Banshee
2. Start playing a track
3. Close the Banshee window (will keep playing without any window open)
4. Open another application, eg. Nautilus
5. Open Banshee again, eg. using the sound indicator menu
6. Banshee is brought to the foreground, but it will show Nautilus' global menu

Not a specific Banshee problem, as can also be reproduced with other applications when they are not correctly brought to the foreground.

yes this is reproduceable bug and i also reproduce it.and this problem is not only with banshee i have also seen it with other applications, like chromium and empathy etc
in this case if we open home folder and banshee with the same process as defined above than if the banshee is front of the us than the top bar options are of home folder's and if we press the close button the home folder is closed i am also attaching a screenshot in which we try to close the banshee but home folder is closed
so i can confirm this bug.
thank you

I disagree with setting this bug's importance to low. Whilst I accept that it isn't a show-stopper, this bug could cause loss of data and prevent correct user-interaction, and so I believe it should have a higher priority.

- as a result of this bug, a user could close the wrong window and lose unsaved data in that window.

- a user could think that they are interacting with one window when in fact they are interacting with another window, potentially damaging open data in that window.

For these reasons - in particular, the potential loss and/or corruption of data - I believe that this bug should have a higher priority set.

I also think the priority is too low for this issue. I am not sure how I reproduce the problem, or how to workaround it. Once it has occurred (see example attached), it makes working really problematic until the problem corrects itself (not sure how).

Suggest significantly increasing the priority. It can't be that hard to ensure global menu is on top?

Daniel, I think your screenshot shows a different bug, where the dash appears behind other windows - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/805087

This bug concerns the incorrect window menu being shown (ie. the menu that might have File, Edit, Help etc.).

Why is this bug's importance set to low? This bug can cause the user to interact with and close the wrong window, causing loss of data.
