Bug Description
Dhcpcd writes the following line to /etc/ntp.conf:
driftfile /etc/ntp.drift
In Ubuntu 5.05, ntpd runs as user ntp and thus lacks permission to create the specified file
Dhcpcd writes the following line to /etc/ntp.conf:
driftfile /etc/ntp.drift
In Ubuntu 5.05, ntpd runs as user ntp and thus lacks permission to create the specified file. Write permission in the directory is necessary as ntpd regularly creates a new file ntp.drift.TEMP and then moves it to ntp.drift.
This may be solved by letting dhcpcd write the line in accordance to Ubuntu's default configuration:
driftfile /var/lib/

Karl, I'm confused. You marked 789 a dupe of this one, but you left an open task on 789 and rejected the one here. Why?
