Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have not been able to mount or use optical disc media within this operating system. I am using Nautilus + Unity as provided by 11.04.

I have No icons for media popping up on the desktop, or under the list of mountable disks in the "Places" Side Pane.

Help me help you track down how to diagnose this issue.

I have an Acer Aspire Timeline 5810T, which may have an optical drive that powers down when idle. Each time I insert media it spins up the drive and refreshes under another OS. This is the first time I have installed Ubuntu on this hardware.

user@Aspire-5810T:/dev$ ls -l cdrom cdrw dvd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2011-05-14 13:56 cdrom -> sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2011-05-14 13:56 cdrw -> sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2011-05-14 13:56 dvd -> sr0
user@Aspire-5810T:/dev$ ls -l /dev/sr0
brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2011-05-14 13:56 /dev/sr0

This sounds like more a problem with your CD drive not being detected by Linux. I would suggest that you run 'apport-collect 782746' again (after I change the package for this bug to linux)

This bug affects me. I also have a Aspire Timeline 5810TZ. It was a problem with prior releases too (back to Lucid). I had to go in an edit fstab to create an entry for the drive. I just had to do a install (rather than upgrade) of 11.04 (passwd policy would not accept a new password I entered and changed it to something else - lost access - should I report that as a bug?). I chose to do a fresh install. The CD/DVD drive is happily recognized during the install, but once the install is complete there is no desktop/fstab activity. udisks shows the drive and media als, but udisks --monitor-detail does not register a media insertion, though it does register a media ejection.

I am going to run apport-collect for this bug and hopefully thats a correct procedure and not rude.

Solution: Needed to change BIOS setting for SATA mode from AHCI to IDE. Forgot about that.
