Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

While trying to install Ubuntu 11.04 to my MacBook Air (2010) hard drive, I receive an error that forces me to quit the installer. This error occurs very shortly after the partitioning step of the installation process. The partitions are being created and are correctly formatted, so I think the error occurs as soon as the OS installation begins.

This sounds much like an incomplete/corrupt ISO download. When that happens, it might boot but then fails randomly.

Please run "md5sum YOURFILE.iso" on the ISO file you downloaded and reply with the output. It should match the hash value listed here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/11.04/MD5SUMS

If running Mac OS X, the command should be something like "md5 YOURFILE.iso" in a Terminal window.

I just checked the md5 sum and it matches the sum at the link provided
below.

Are you installing from a memory stick or physical CD-ROM? I have found in the past on the new Macbook Air that something resets USB memory sticks during Ubuntu installation and they apparently vanish to the installer or at least stop working. Not entirely surprising because I've seen kernel developers working with and trying to fix some unexpected USB-reset issues on the new Macbook Airs.

Make sure you're using a USB CD-ROM drive. That seems to avoid the problems I have seen. And if you are already installing from a CD-ROM then please try burning another copy (at low speed) to ensure its correctness.

I've got exactly the same problem: MacBook Air 3.2 + Ubuntu 11.04 amd64
Dowloaded .iso many times. The syslog says: AssertionError: Missing filesystem.size.
