sipwitch fails to close

Binary package hint: sipwitch

I installed sipwitch to test it, but after that my system is not shutting down, which later I found that is because the sipwitch fails to terminate. I tried to uninstall, and it fails to terminate at synaptic also, hence uninstalling process had to be terminated using Ctrl+C.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10, and uninstalled from recovery console from Grub. It was also delaying my boot time. Now, the shutdown issue is solved.

I have an identical problem on a VPS.

Sipwitch insists it is running:

[code]$ sudo service sipwitch start
already started[/code]

though ps -e shows no sign of it. Any commands sent to sipwitch return "*** sipwitch: offline":

*** sipwitch: offline
$ sipwitch status
*** sipwitch: offline
$ sipwitch dump
*** sipwitch: offline[/code]

Attempts to stop the service hang indefinitely, as do attempts to reboot at the command line. Hard resets of the VPS work, but on restart problems are exactly as they were.

Log shows a fairly common libgcrypt error, which I doubt is the issue but here it is anyway

This bug is a total showstopper for the sipwitch package, which doesn't work at all
