Xorg freeze

After upgrading to natty, the screen saver freezes frequently. Sometimes I can get a terminal with CTL-ALT-Fx, but other times it requires a power cycle to recover. Browsing the log files, I noticed the following 2 messages repeated every 1-2 seconds at the time of the hang:

Note that I was also having severe problems with Unity so have switched to Classic, which is mostly usable....
