Bug Description

Binary package hint: hplip

When printing in color on a ColorLaserJet 3550 the colors are not correctly printed, on the ubuntu testpage the red scale is printed in green, the green scale is printed in cyan and blue is violet, the cyan scale is printed magenta and starts at 60%, magenta starts at 60%, too and is yellow, the yellow scale isn't printed at all and black starts at 70%.

Printing in grayscales however works fine. I also use a ColorLaserJet 4550 which also works fine in color and grayscale. (see attached scan from ubuntu-testpage)

I tried all ppds for the 3550 and 3550n, hplip, hpcups and pixljr, which does not work at all, using pixljr gives 'you ar using the wrong driver for your printer' as error message.

I have this problem with two Natty installs, one fresh from scratch and one updated from 10.10.

On the last machine running 10.10 printing to the CLJ 3550 still works fine.

Just the same with HP3600. Please find attached test page in bug #777670 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/777670)

Looks like all the JetReady printers are affected by this.

Has anybody found a workaround? Is it possible to choose some other printer driver and still be able to print in colors?

Use the "Foomatic/pxljr" driver and set the "Printout Mode" option to "Best Color".

Thanks Till, this works for me with the 3550.

It does not work for me, since the 3600 I am using is a network printer. Apparently the "Foomatic/pxljr" driver does not support network printing.

Our 3550 is connected by network via an HP network-adaptor, too.
