Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that "dist-upgrade.tar.gz" was flagged as a patch. A patch contains changes to an Ubuntu package that will resolve a bug, since this was not one I've unchecked the patch flag for it. In the future keep in mind the definition of a patch. You can learn more about what qualifies as a patch at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Patches. Thanks!

Thanks for reporting this. Can you attach a new compressed file with the contents of /var/log/dist-upgrade? The one that is currently attached seems to be unreadable.

You had far too many packages installed from PPAs (29 PPAs for maverick) to safely upgrade your system. Please install packages from the official repository before upgrading.

The possible candidates that may hold back essential packages and preventing the upgrade are: banshee, libreoffice and xorg-edgers

ppa-purge may help you to revert to official packages.

I'm closing this report because it's not a bug with Ubuntu.
