Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Whenever I open firefox it is maximized, no matter what my other firefox windows are like.

I expect it to open with the same size and in a similar state to what my other (or last) window was.

Unity Maximizes those windows that take 75% of the screen when opened. When you close firefox make sure it does not takes 3/4 of the screen size or less (do some guess work). after that see if the issue happens or not. Thanks

This is indeed the issue.
Ouch...
I find this extremely annoying since i prefer windows to tabs.
Is there any way to disable the 3/4 automaximizing?

I'd agree that this is incredibly annoying. I have Firefox sized correctly so that I can reopen it and fit the other windows that make up my work flow around it. I also can't see that this function has any practical benefit - surely people would maximise a window if they intended it to be maximised. Could someone please explain the reasoning behind this seemingly odd design choice?

This is a more general version of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/754214

I think this kind of design decision is called "zero configuration"....

PS:
My opinion: Please give an option somewhere to change this. I like Firefox to start exactly the size I used it last time, and I don't like maximized windows.

I don't think this is a duplicate of bug #708809 because in bug #708809 the 75% value was released as a fix, while this bug is about a fixed setting of 75% is still bad. Note that this bug was filed AFTER the fix release of bug #708809.
