banshee fails to connect until third try

Binary package hint: banshee

Banshee fails to connect to internet radio streams until at least the third attempt.

I expected Banshee to connect on the first try, or report some kind of timeout during connection.

What happened instead was that Banshee failed to connect, reported nothing in the area where one normally sees "Idle" or "Buffering...", and the play/stop button returned to the "Play" icon. After attempting twice more, Banshee exhibited the normal behaviour.

I have tested this with numerous streams, including DI.fm, Soma.fm, the Loveline archive stream, and CBC radio streams.

Are you saying the expectation is that:

a) Banshee should connect on the first attempt,

b) Banshee should inform the user of connection failures

or

c) both?

If Banshee cannot connect to a stream, it would be wise to report why, instead of simply reporting no error/warning at all, and returning to the "Idle" state.

I think there's also something else going on (perhaps with filling a buffer, although that's a shot in the dark) beyond a UI issue: streams I know to work for sure in other applications (ie. they are up, open for connection, and latency is low) still take at least 3 tries to connect in Banshee.

I don't think this is a duplicate. The behaviour I'm reporting leaves
Banshee in a usable state. I can still use all features of the
application. The problem is not a crash or a hang, but that the stream
doesn't connect, nothing is reported, and after two more attempts, the
stream works.
