Bug Description

The depedencies of the mint-meta-codec in LMDE can't installed, becaouse of missing depedencies.

There are many packages (in synaptic shown as "local or expired") which are the part of the system. I can't install some package mint-meta-codec, and I can't play many videos becaouse of that.

(I've deleted the local packages, but they should be available from respositories)

Could you precise what version of LMDE you are running, and which packages are missing ? (ideally the output of "sudo apt-get install mint-meta-codec")

Thanks.

I'm sorry, I've changed my operating system since this bug report, so
I can't provide you any more information about that.
You can close that bug.

No, please don't close the bug, it is still there. Running LMDE 32bit, here is the output of "sudo apt-get install mint-meta-codec":

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mint-meta-codecs : Depends: gstreamer0.10-esd but it is not installable
Depends: gstreamer0.10-pitfdll but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

I also have a simlar problem with LMDE - 64bit version.

uname -a
Linux debian-desktop 3.0.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Sat Aug 27 16:21:11 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

If i try to resolve the dependancies manually this it the path I go down:

apt-get install mint-meta-codecs
.. blah, blah...

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mint-meta-codecs : Depends: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg but it is not going to be installed

apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libavcodec-extra-53 libavformat-extra-53 libavutil-extra-51 libpostproc52 libswscale-extra-2
Suggested packages:
  libfaad0
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libavcodec53 libavutil51
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg libavcodec-extra-53 libavformat-extra-53 libavutil-extra-51 libpostproc52 libswscale-extra-2
0 upgraded, 6 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

.. Y to continue..

apt-get install mint-meta-codecs
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mint-meta-codecs : Depends: gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad but it is not going to be installed

apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad : Depends: libmjpegtools-2.0-0 but it is not going to be installed

apt-get install libmjpegtools-2.0-0
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libmjpegtools-2.0-0 : Depends: libquicktime2 (>= 3:1.2.2) but it is not going to be installed

apt-get install libquicktime2
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libquicktime2 : Depends: libavcodec53 (>= 5:0.8) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libavutil51 (>= 5:0.8) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libswscale2 (>= 5:0.8) but it is not going to be installed

apt-get install libavutil51
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libavcodec53
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg libavcodec-extra-53 libavformat-extra-53 libavutil-extra-51 libpostproc52 libswscale-extra-2
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libavcodec53 libavutil51

As you can see it takes me in circle centred around 'gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg' which (in my senairo) is the 1st dependacy and ending in a dependancy (libavutil51) that wants to remove 'gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg'

Not sure if this is a bug or something mis configured on my machine... but thought I would add my 2pence worth and see if anyone has any advice??

cheers :)

I am also affected by this issue.
Im running Mint 13 Maya in VirtualBox 4.3.12 r93733
Mint-meta-codecs properties shows version 2012.05.20.1(maya)

I get error message "Unable to correct problems you have broken packages"
When i use Synaptic manager to try to correct this i get these messages
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
E: Unable to correct dependencies
When I try to view the changelog for mint-meta-codecs I get this
Failed to fetch the changelog for mint-meta-codecs
URI was: http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/m/mint-meta/mint-meta-codecs_2012.05.20.1_i386.changelog

Is there any other info I can get you to try and help resolve this issue?

I dont beleive this.
Literally minutes after I posted my last message i got an update notification via the Update Manager.
After the update, I thought i would try audio playback just for the hell of it.
Guess what .... ?
MP3 files are now playing back correctly.
If this information is useful, and someone can tell me how to find out which updates were downloaded and installed on my computer at 4:40pm 30/8/2014 I will be glad to oblige.
