shotwell icon not shown in the launcher even its running

In left panel of Unity that has Shotwell icon as default. When i picked it and move it to the another position of pane, it was disappeared. Even when i open Shotwell app, it also isn't showed on the panel (image)

thanks for the bug report. Is this a permanent issue or was it specific to just one session? I am not able to reproduce the issue with shotwell but have seen a similar issue a few days ago (before 3.8.2).

I had fixed it by click on Ubuntu logo in the top left corner, then choose Shotwell in the main menu. It opened n i choose "keep it" in panel :)

I'm having a very difficult time reliably replicating this behaviour, but I am also experiencing the issue described in this ticket.

The attached screen shot shows Shotwell running, despite its corresponding launcher icon (marked as "keep in launcher") not showing a triangle to indicate an open window.

When I clicked the icon to start Shotwell, the icon pulsated for several seconds after Shotwell finished loading. To me, this suggests that the launcher is not correctly detecting (or receiving notification) when Shotwell loads. Logically this would explain the symptom described by the creator of this bug.

I have successfully replicated the behaviour three times by following these (possibly less than optimal) steps:

1. Ensure that a Shotwell icon is set to "keep in launcher."
2. Log out, then back in.
3. Start Shotwell via the launcher icon.
4. Quit Shotwell via the launcher icon.
5. Start Shotwell via the launcher icon.
6. Right-click the Shotwell launcher icon and untick "keep in launcher."
7. Quit Shotwell via the launcher icon.
8. Start Shotwell via the Ubuntu logo > View Photos.
9. Quit Shotwell via the launcher icon.
10. Start Shotwell via the Ubuntu logo > View Photos.
11. Right-click the Shotwell launcher icon and tick "keep in launcher."
12. Quit Shotwell via the launcher icon.
13. Start Shotwell via the launcher icon. Observe that Shotwell successfully starts, but the launcher icon continues to pulsate and fails to show a triangle on the side indicating running.

Bug #688777, while marked as having a "fix released," appears to be very much related.

Perhaps of interest: while carrying out the above steps, I noticed that two Shotwell icons would temporarily appear in the launcher during Shotwell's initialisation process. Bug #756689 may therefore be related.

Please let me know if you'd like me to create a new bug for this problem, with all of the ubuntu-bug attachments generated by my system.

Hi Alex,

I believe this is a duplicate of the bug you commented on - I'm marking it as such. This is the older bug but the newer one contains more accurate commentary and an indication of the cause of the bug, rather than just the symptom like this one.
