Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The status bar icons, the menus they display, and parts of pages in Firefox show corruption in the form of horizontal bars of noise. The status bar corruption happens since login. This problem remains after having performed all the post-beta-1 updates.

More information:

- The noise is always at the bottom of something: icons, images, lines of rendered text. Never at the top or sides.
- It happens in all programs, but not with the same consistency or frequency.
- (just speculation from observation) The problem may be within the scrolling of screen (bitmap) regions. The bottom part seems to be left out.

Context menus and right click menus are similarly corrupt but very hard to capture as an image. Suggestions?

I temporarily solved my problem (Intel 865G) by installing the latest Intel graphics driver from xorg-edgers PPA at: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

I just installed the package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.902+git20110408.97e95576-0ubuntu0sarvatt

I installed 13.10 through upgrade, so I don't know about a clean install.
Maybe later.

@Timo: thanks Timo.
Yesterday I switched to xorg-edgers & that seems to be working. Later today I'll pp-purge that and try the 'xserver-xorg-lts-raring' method.

$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel

For others that read this bug comment, see:
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack>
for information on xserver-xorg-lts-raring.
I installed via:

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends xserver-xorg-lts-raring
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-lts-raring

xserver-xorg-video-intel is not used at all:
$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel:
