Bug Description

Some packages have been translated into Scots, but I can't use them without the language-support-sco file, which doesn't seem to be on the repositories. I will gladly continue to translate the packages, but there is no point without being able to use them :)

I open the Language Support program to choose it and Scots is not listed as a language there although some files do exist (language-pack-gnome-sco, language-pack-gnome-sco-base, language-pack-kde-sco, language-pack-kde-sco-base, language-pack-sco and language-pack-sco-base).

Thanks!

Alan

s there really a difference between 'Scots' and 'Scots Gaelic'? We do have language-support-gd and some related packages:

myspell-gd - Scots Gaelic dictionary for myspell
igaelic - A Scots Gaelic dictionary for ispell
ospics - Some images of operating system logos/mascots
tuxkart - A 3D go-kart racing game
wgaelic - A Scots Gaelic word list

Either 'Scots' and 'Scots Gaelic' are really two different things, then I can easily create a language-support-sco package (any useful packages this should bring in?) Or these are really the same, then the language-pack-*-sco pacakges should be removed and the translations of -sco and -gd merged.

Yes, absolutely. Scots is a Germanic language, as is English. "Scots
Gaelic" or, as I would prefer it to be named "Scottish Gaelic" is a Celtic
language, related to Irish. The Scottish Gaelic files, as far as I am
aware, are complete. It is a common mistake to think that Scots and
Scottish Gaelic are the same language, and this is the reason behind the
misnomer "Scots Gaelic", but they are not the same.

Useful packages would be the OOo ones and any obviously useful software for
which translations exist.

To summarise, they are different, so please create separate (completely
separate) files using the codes "gd" for "Scottish Gaelic" and "sco" for
"Scots".

Any other problems, let me know.

Argh, didn't pay attention that the escalated bug wasn't a distro task.
