Bug Description

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

System:
  Description: Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
  Release: 11.04

Version info:
  system-config-printer-gnome:
    Installed: 1.3.1+20110222-0ubuntu6
    Candidate: 1.3.1+20110222-0ubuntu6
    Version table:
    *** 1.3.1+20110222-0ubuntu6 0
           500 http://www.lug.bu.edu/mirror/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
           100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I just installed the Natty alpha and I wanted to add a network printer using IPP. When I try to input the host address, I can not use the colon. The input box treats the colon as a `move right'. I need to be able to use the colon because the address is of the form
server:631/printers/queue I am not able to use the colon in either the host input line or the queue input line.

Tim, can you have a look into this? Please make sure that all input fields accept all allowed character. Perhaps simply allow all printable characters in all input fields of s-c-p. Especially host names/IPs should be allowed with a non-standard port extension (":<port>") if there is no separate field for the port.

Lucas, port 631 is the default port for IPP. It should work to use simply "server" as host name instead of "server:631".

This had been already fixed in 1.2.x (6fb4a12) but was lost during the by-hand merge.
I fixed (d552197) it now in master branch.

This bug was fixed in the package system-config-printer - 1.3.1+20110222-0ubuntu7

---------------
system-config-printer (1.3.1+20110222-0ubuntu7) natty; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/30_colon-in-ipp-hostname.patch: When setting up an IPP
printer it was not possible to enter a colon into the field for the
host name, for example to specify an alternative port (LP: #734898).

Thanks for the fix, I updated today and I can input colons, but I can't do / anymore. I have the same exact issue as I had with the colon, the slash character is translated into a move right.

The "Host:" field is meant to specify the ip address or hostname of the server or printer,
therefore you don't need to put slash there. All the slashes go into the "Queue:" field.
