Bug Description

My openoffice.org (e.g /usr/bin/oowriter) gives the following messages during startup from a terminal:

(once):

libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5b

(many):

(process:7600): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2240: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

(process:7600): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_screen_get_font_options: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed

I've seen these message mentioned in other bug reports but these seemed to all be regarding copy/paste crashes, which I've had no problems with. The messages are annoying, especially when calling openoffice from a terminal program such as mutt. The messages are confirmed by at least one other person here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=285369

My system is running a fully updated ubuntu edgy with xfce desktop. kernel 2.6.17-10-server, openoffice version 2.0.4-0ubuntu2

I am seeing this too in Edgy. I use Enlightenment (e16) as my window manager, and launching oowriter from the terminal gives me this same flood of error messages.

That comment is older - it was already there when I reported the bug
for the first time I believe.

I can confirm that with the latest updated version (28-03-07) of
ubuntu 6.10, the problem is still there. Is there a new update for
feisty available? I'm not ready to upgrade yet, but I'll test it
again once the feisty release is out.

I'm now running

The error messages are still there in feisty with openoffice.org 2.2.0-1ubuntu4 .

I'll try it once it 7.10 comes out, and update the bug report.

Are you sure this is a duplicate of 62432? I don't see any
resemblence in the (rather sparse) description of 62432. Bug 73444 is
about error messages during startup on the console (which works fine,
after that), bug 62432 seems to be a crash bug when using "paste".

Kind regards,

Hein Zelle
