Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

What happens is that after some time, the launcher stops hiding/dodging even if it's set to do so. When it happens, the launcher boundary seems to have even some edge resistance/attraction. Launcher stay visible no matter what you do with the mouse, and indefinitely until you restart unity. Even re-setting the hiding/dodging preference in CompizConfig does not help. The only remedy (without any console commands) seems to logout/login or restart unity.
This happens to me quite often as I leave my computer on for long times.
Please see the screenshot. I'll try to get a unity.log file when I can.

Probably a duplicate of either bug #731872 ("Launcher: maximised + autohide relies on mouseout to hide") or bug #684590 ("the application panel stays up with auto hide after a password dialog").

Hey Paul, it seems it's related to bug #731872 but the persistent behavior of the launcher in my case is not just for several seconds. It stays there no matter what you do with the mouse, and indefinitely until you restart unity. Even re-setting the hiding preference in CompizConfig does not help.

If it's of any help, the applications that I constantly use are Firefox, Evolution, Evince, and Libreoffice. Thanks!

I am not sure about 'Long Uptime' but I too face a kind of similar issue where launcher won't hide unless i hover over the launcher and then move away. This is random and I have not yet found any steps.

Sadly, I'm facing the same issue here.

I had the same problem and I just pressed NumLock and the Launcher hid itself immediately. Idea taken from here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/772817

Same issue here; especially with LIbreOffice and Firefox. Pressing NumLock hides the Launcher.

Very strange, I had this problem where the Launcher just would not hide. Turning num-lock off fixed the problem. However, if NumLock is turned back on after, the Launcher still behaves itself until the right mouse button is clicked, when it once again gets stuck.

There doesn't seem to be a workaround for this issue I've found that isn't logging out and back in; it is happening pretty quickly for me running only libreoffice, gnome-terminal and firefox. I need to find out how it gets triggered.

Hi,

for me this only ever happens when Libreoffice is running. Quitting Libreoffice, instantly solves the issue and the launcher hides straight away.

daveyb, I was about to say something similar. I've been experimenting with it for some time now and it seems Libreoffice is a very likely culprit. Can't be sure if it's the only one but Libreoffice definitely has a hand in this phenomenon. I'm not using Openoffice so I can't say where the problem lies...

This bug affects me, too. I also find it happens most often (and maybe only!) when Libre Office and Firefox are both open. This happens on both of my computers. I would also like to confirm that when I press "Num Lock," the launcher hides properly, at least on the one machine I have access too right now. I will have to try Num Lock on the other one at home later to see if it works on that machine as well.

Thanks!

Hi,

Affects me aswell. The panel gets stuck after I drag some content in NetBeans - folder in project tree, open tab, etc. The only fix I found so far is dragging an image in Chrome - that makes the panel hide.

Thanks for the bug report. The issue is fixed in Oneirc and probably in Natty as well with latest unity there. Please re-open if it still happens with Oneiric fully updated.
