Bug Description

This one seems pretty simple: Trying to play any file with SIDPlay2 causes the program to die with exactly one line of output: the error as noted in the summary. Attempting to run the program through aoss or esddsp gives the same result.

Audacious SID Plugin seems to work fine, however.

I should mention, this is under Maverick. No trouble with previous releases.

I can confirm this with 10.10 too. Seems to be issue with pulseaudio. Using padsp as it produces garbled output.

Missed this bug (why is it not listed under the sidplay package?), attaching patch from bug #740560.

Still an issue with the full/final release of Natty. However, there is a workaround one can use instead of the above patch - use alsa-oss and padsp together:

aoss padsp sidplay2 somefile.sid

This bug was fixed in the package sidplay - 2.0.9-6ubuntu1

---------------
sidplay (2.0.9-6ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Backport portions of patch from Cybjit resolving failure to play
    audio due to missing /dev/dsp. This patch adds ALSA support.
    (LP: #727573)
  * Update configure.ac; run autoconf.
