Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

I'm afraid I'm blaiming cups for this because I can't figure out what package the Canon BJ330 driver comes from.

The BJ330 is a wide carrage printer capable of printing 14" wide on 14 7/8" form feed paper. But there is no option for this paper in the driver, and none of the options available will work with this paper. It is obvious that the driver writer knew that this is a wide format printer since 11x17 is supported. This does not help, because it is not the same aespect ratio as the form feed paper, and 11x17 paper must be loaded portrate mode since 17" is wider than the 15" platten. 11x14 7/8" form feed paper can only be loaded in landscape mode.

Yes I need to buy a new printer. I dragged this printer out of my scrap pile when my i9900 failed just in time for taxes. Some of the forms I'm trying to copy have such fine print they are illegible if printed on an 8.5x11 page on the BJ330.

Most Foomatic-generated PPD files are really missing a custom page size setting. I have added this now for most drivers, including "bj200" in the upstream BZR repository of foomatic-db. I will update the Ubuntu package after the Alpha 3 release.

This bug was fixed in the package foomatic-db - 20110317-0ubuntu1

---------------
foomatic-db (20110317-0ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
     - Added custom page size to the most-used PageSize option entries, so
       that most Foomatic-generated PPD files get the possibility to select
       a custom page size. We do this as we do not know the complete sets of
       possible page sizes for most printers and probably many actually allow
       custom page sizes by hardware (LP: #726397).
