[launcher] Gnome Terminal appears multiple times in launcher

Bug Description

On opening certain apps from the launcher, instead of using the existing launcher icon, the launcher creates a second icon, which clutters the launcher rather quickly.

Apps I've noticed doing this so far are:
*Firefox
*terminal

(I've attached a screenshot)

Apps that behave *correctly* are:
*gedit
*chromium
*calculator
*rhythmbox
*File manager (nautilus)

There may be others too but so far I haven't tested for them.

I did try adding Firefox 4.0 beta but it wouldn't allow me to add it to the launcher.

I have also just noticed that when minimized Pidgin does not display the left hand arrow to indicate it is running. Also, the panel icon is invisible.

Thanks for reporting the bug Nick.

What terminal application are you using exactly?
Also the web browser icon does not look like Firefox's, is it iceweasel by any chance?

Hi Florian,

I use the default Terminal on 10.10 which is Gnome Terminal 2.32.0

The web browser icon is the one of a blue planet without the fox. The browser is called Namoroka. It uses this one because I subscribed to the ppa for the Firefox 4.0 beta, and for some reason it turns standard Firefox 3.x into Namoroka.

NB: the icon is in my attached screenshot too.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply Nick.

I cannot reproduce the issue with the Terminal.
Can you paste the output of the following commands?

$ apt-cache show unity-2d-*
$ apt-cache show gnome-terminal
$ dpkg -L namoroka (or whatever the name of the package is for the web browser)

Hi Florian, I have the output of those commands below. (I don't know if launchpad has code tags or not.)

BTW Namoroka didn't work as the command, but Firefox did. I know that's the right one since it includes the suffix "pre" on some of the output below (eg Firefox-3.6.14pre).

I also note it says there are conflicts with the old 'unity-qt*' versions.

Thanks

Ahh yes it quite probably is. Firefox 4 should be released some time this month and then it should no longer be an issue (for people who revert to standard release versions). That doesn't explain why there is a second terminal icon when loaded though. Perhaps it's also caused by Firefox.

Sorry for not getting back earlier Nick.

Are you still seeing that issue? Is it happening in Natty?

No, I think this bug arose as a combination of having Firefox 4 beta +
Maverick + Unity 2D. I no longer test Unity 2D on Maverick and I have
Firefox 4 final now so it shouldn't be an issue. Thanks
