the idea is that collections will be in collections, which are active and have 1 or more thumbnails with big images attached to them....and then older collections can be stories...this way we leave to yilin to upload an image and thumbnail for the stories.

What differentiates a Collection from a Story? Can Collections devolve into Stories? If so, how would that work? Would she have to specify a new image/thumbnail or would it pull the defaults from when it was a Collection?

Or does Yilin decide first if she's creating a Collection or Story?

sooo, the story are really just collections...she wants the story page to look just a like an individual collection, but with 1-2 thumbnails that are clickable to show the big image above, just like a collection.

i know this is a break in logic from how we built the collections, but that is what she wants.

does this make more sense?

That is why I said, collections should have 1 or more big images to represent the collection. That way, can have a thumbnail and a big image which can be used for this story.

We kind of already have this built-in, but could add a switch on an image in a collection to make it a story rather than considering a collection as either current or old.

Make sense? Just down to a design decision...

I've read through this & am still not quite sure where to begin:

So, the STORY page, when I click on it, it should appear as though I'm looking at an individual collection (1 big image & a scrollable thumbnail list of other images), but really, each thumbnail is representative of an individual story? So, like all stories are shown on same page & are just 1 thumbnail & an accompanying image?

How are these stories created? Is it a similar or same process as the Collections? Should there be a link in the dashboard topnav for story creation?

Oh, scrap the idea that collections can be current or old. I think
that is not right now. Right, well, my thoughts are that we allow for
a switch on images in a collection so that they can be stories. Then,
what we should do is put this onto the normal collection scroller by
doing a search for all collections with the flag that they are
stories, and only display those thumbnails which when click show up
above the image scroller. Make sense?

Good question...I think we just allow the setting of the story flag on
the images that have been uploaded...its a a new flag. Something is or
is not a story image.

This allows her to have 1 or more story images. She only wants 1-2 per
collection. My concern before is that there would be all these
collection images uploaded that she would have to remove, so now at
least they could stay, and only the ones she flagged would be stories.

It would be good on the dashboard images page to have something like
"image title (is story)" if something is a story image...quick and
simple...

And, if you get done with this and seems crazy, then could have a
subheading on the images page to show stories...make sense?

Hi Brad,

Attached is a rough preview of what I'd like for story.

It's in the exact format as COLLECTIONS(in top navigation bar) except that all the images are editorial/campaign images of previous collections which I intend to archive. (they extend all the way back to my very first collection)

This differs conceptually from the 'COLLECTIONS' in the top navigation bar as those are the most recent TWO collections at any one time.

But their format is the same. So it will be cool if I could upload the images in the same way as I would with the COLLECTIONS at top bar.

I will like to add that the 'story' is purely visual and has no accompanying text. I'm not concerned about that as I think the campaign images speak enough of the gist of each collection.

Do note that the archival of images in 'story' is completely different from those in COLLECTIONS as STORY contains purely editorial images while COLLECTION contain lookbook images. Don't worry about what goes into those images. As long as I'm able to edit them under COLLECTIONS and STORY, everything will be fine by me even if it means doing double work.

The Story page has been fleshed out in both the dashboard & on the main site.

So, on the /dashboard, if you hover over "IMAGES" in the topnav, you'll see a new option "STORIES".

This link takes you to the /cp/your-stories page where you can manage Stories & images that are associated with them.

The process works much the same as in collections. When you upload a thumbnail, there is a select field that you can select called "Story". Here, a list of all your created stories are listed. You select the story you'd like the image to be associated with & it will appear on the cp/your-stories page, under the story you assigned it to.

From this point, you can associate any uploaded image that is of type 'full' with the thumbnail & the pair will display on the story page.
