When I touch the screen, utouch reacts as if I were using the right button of my mouse (contextual menus, for instance) instead of the normal button.

It could be that there's a fix for this in Ubuntu Natty. You can test this by downloading the current beta release of Natty, put it on a usb drive using usb-creator, then booting from it to test. You don't need to install Natty to test it out.

Finding out if this is still an issue in Natty will help us find a fix for this issue.

Thanks!

Yes, this is still an issue. Touching the screen has the same effect as a mouse right click (displays contextual menus and so on).

The next step would be to attach a recording of the device to see if someone else can reproduce it. You will need to be in Natty (I think it will work from a thumb drive), then follow these instructions:

Please attach the device.prop and device.record files to this report.

Thanks

Hi,

I could not even get past the first step. In a terminal, I typed this:

sudo apt-get install utouch-evemu-tools

and got this:

E: Unable to locate package utouch-evemu-tool

I'm running Natty from a thum drive and have a valid ethernet connexion.

What should I do?

Thanks,

Gilbert

Chase,

As I understand it, this happens when the user selects "Left-handed" in the mouse configuration application. Once that is done, the mouse buttons are inversed as desired, but this has the unfortunate effect of causing the touch screen to do secondary mouse clicks instead of primary.

Are you not able to reproduce this behaviour?

My guess is that X is sending button 1 press and release events, and that GTK has internally remapped button 1 to secondary and button 2 to primary for left-handed mousing. GTK needs to somehow determine if the XInput slave device (i.e. the physical device) is a touchscreen or not. Then it can interpret the button presses appropriately. Unfortunately, I don't know if it can do this without some of the XInput multitouch additions, which aren't upstream in X.org yet. There may be a way to do it with XInput 1.x device types, but I'm not as familiar with it.

If my guess is correct, this has nothing to do with utouch or even multitouch support. Any touchscreen in X would cause this behavior. If my guess is incorrect, well then I have no clue what's going on :).
